Twickenham Stadium
is the largest rugby union stadium in the United
Kingdom, seating 82,000 and the second largest
stadium in the UK after
Wembley Stadium. For more information about the big rugby matches, rugby
pubs and of course local transport, visit our page on
Twickenham Stadium

The origin of rugby is reputed to be an incident when
William Webb-Ellis picked up a soccer ball, during a
game of football in 1823 and ran with it, at Rugby
School, Rugby, England. Although this tale is likely to
be apocryphal, the trophy played for every four years at
the Rugby World Cup is named after him.
Richmond Rugby Club
was formed in 1861 and participated in the worlds very
first inter-club fixture in 1864 against Blackheath.
Richmond Athletic Ground, home to London
Scottish and Richmond Rugby Clubs runs an annual
fireworks night, as does Barnes Sports Club. For
more information, visit our
Richmond events calendar page. |
