We love
Richmond Park. 2,500 acres of
parkland with an incredible 300 red deer, 250 fallow
deer and 1000 oak trees. It's even a Special Area of Conservation for the
Stag
beetle. Visit the Friends of Richmond Park for regular guided walks. And if you're into flora, check out Kew Gardens. |

Park is open from 7am
in the summer and 7.30 in the winter, and closes

Richmond Park hosts
part of the Capital Ring - a route that completely
encircles inner and central London. An arrangement
between London's 33 local councils, the City of London
Corporation and the Greater London Authority. There are some great walks in Richmond Park, with some stunning views including this vista of Pen Ponds from the edge of Sidmouth Wood. |

In 1625 Charles I brought his court to Richmond Palace to escape the plague in London and turned it into a park for red and fallow deer. Autumn is a good time for deer watching as it is rutting season. click for more |
Our favourite view from the Park is
looking across to St Paul's Cathedral, more than 12
miles away. There's even a telescope positioned at
the top of the King's Mound for the very farthest view.

There are a couple of running clubs who regularly take
to the Park -
Ranelagh Harriers Running Club
and
Sheen Shufflers Running Club.
The
Tamsin Trail is a 12km path around the inside perimiter
of Richmond Park. Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has been known to run around Richmond Park on a Sunday. If only he'd open a restaurant in Richmond upon Thames |

Richmond Park is a top UK site for ancient trees, particularly oaks, which have great historic and wildlife importance. However, it's also the home to many beautiful flowers - particularly in the Isabella Plantation and the gardens at Pembroke Lodge. | |||

During King Edward's reign (1272-1307) the Richmond Park area was known as the Manor of Sheen, and the name changed to Richmond Park during Henry VIII's reign.
In 1847 Pembroke Lodge in Richmond Park became the home of the Prime Minister, Lord John Russell and was later the childhood home of his grandson, Bertrand Russell (philosopher and mathematician). |
