Newby coming to Richmond

Hi everyone! My husband and I will be coming to Richmond the end of next month to drop off our son at the American International University. I missed great deals on some of the local hotels and are now looking into staying at the Dukes Head Inn. Can anyone give me their insight on the Inn? There seems to be something BIG in town going on around the w/e of Sept. 4th and 5th, the hotel rates skyrocketed and/or are already sold out on those 2 days! What is it?

Also would love some suggestions and opinions on other accomodations. I've looked at THEM ALL but could have missed one or two. Really would like to keep the hotel/inn cost below 1,000 US for the week. (P.S. We will NOT have a car and will rely on public transportation for everything (dining, shopping, sightseeing, etc.)

Dont know anything about the Duke's Head Inn. But you may want to investigate The Victoria. It's a 15 minute walk from the centre of Richmond in Sheen (but close to the Park) and has a good reputation. http://www.thevictoria.net

Not heard about the accommodation at the Duke but the food is good. Try tripadvisor if you haven't already.

Richmond Park Hotel has always looked ok to me http://www.therichmondparkhotel.co.uk/ (although I must admit I have never stayed there or known anyone who has unfortunately) - but it's a brilliant location. Does anyone know about how good that is?
