The Most Popular Restaurants

One of the great things about running a website is the ability to look at data. And today we’re delving into the numbers behind the most popular restaurants on Totally Richmond.

There are many ways to quantify ‘most popular’ including searches, page visits, page likes  and clicks through to the restaurant’s own sites. We’ve pulled all that information together and weighted it appropriately to determine the ‘winners’.

Since we cover the whole of the Borough this isn’t just a collection of Richmond town restaurants.

Our visitors have shown great interest and support for establishments from Teddington, Twickenham, Petersham and Kew.

But nothing from Barnes / Mortlake / East Sheen, Whitton or Hampton.

Unsurprisingly the choice of cuisine is reasonably varied; including Italian, French, Seafood, Spanish, American, Argentinian and British – and you’re probably already starting to guess some of the names on our list.

But what about the balance of small owner-operated restaurants vs national chains?  The good news for local restaurateurs is that our list includes far more independent restaurants.

However two of the most recently opened establishments in the list are from bigger companies – Bill’s and Jamie’s Trattoria – and we think both deserve to be there.   It will be interesting to review this again in a year and see whether they have stayed the course, or whether more chains have encroached.

Without further ado, here’s list of the top 20 restaurants in alphabetical order.  Note that there are a handful of gastro pubs that would have featured but we kept it strictly to places that serve food first, alcohol second.

The Most Popular Restaurants

On the whole, this does include a lot of places we really like, but there are a couple of surprises on the list which shows (as far as we’re concerned) that quality and popularity don’t always go hand in hand.    Although this is the first time we’ve done this analysis, it looks like there would be at least three new entries as Jamie’s Trattoria, Bills and Urban Diner are recent arrivals.

If this sparks your curiosity in any way, you might want to see an earlier post where we discussed how Mac and PC users prefer different food  and the most expensive restaurants in Richmond.
