Summer Fairs 2016

Once again we have pulled together our annual round up of all things summery and fair-like… including fetes, festivals and a few other events.  And as always, it took longer than we expected.  There really is a lot to look forward over our most sunshine-filled months.

Chestnut Sunday
Sunday 8th May 2016, 12.30-5.30pm – Bushy Park
The Bushy Park Chestnut Sunday parade starts at 12:30pm on Chestnut Avenue at Teddington Gate leading to an area of fun including a carousel, brass band, historical re-enactment groups, classic vehicles, refreshments, pony rides etc. More info.

Richmond May Fair
Saturday 14th May 2016 – Richmond Green
Over 100 charity stalls, a Quality Craft Marquee, vintage carousel & helter-skelter, all day free entertainment, crowning of Richmond May Queen, Maypole dancing and of course food. More info

St Richard Reynolds Car Boot Sale
Sunday 15th May 2016 – Clifden Road, Twickenham
A chance to empty your loft and make a few quid on a Sunday morning, or browse the car boots and find a real bargain.  “One man’s rubbish is another man’s treasure”.  Sellers arrive 9am, buyers arrive 10am and the sale closes at 2pm.

Stanley School May Fair
Subday 15th May 2016, Stanley School Twickenham – 12-3pm
A busy timetable of events, including the lighting of the Olympic torch, Year 2 choir and country dancing, the great Stanley Bake Off and the Stanley tug of war!

Orleans Primary School May Fair
Saturday 21st May 2016, times TBC, Orleans Primary School
Stalls, activities, go-karts, tug-o-war and much more.

Hands Charity Fair
Monday 30th May 2016, from 12 noon – Twickenham Green
Over seventy organisations participate, having stalls around the Green selling a variety of goods including plants, toys, home produce, jams, cakes, gifts, books, bric-a-brac, refreshments, barbecue etc. It’s a family orientated day so there will be simple competitions or amusements for children such as a treasure hunt, face painting, making badges etc. More info.


Fun Day: The Festival of Fun, Fairytales & Fables
Sunday 5th June 2016, 11am – 4.30pm – Strawberry Hill House
Go as your favourite storybook character and immerse yourself in a land of make believe.  Come rain or shine share a day of family fun in the beautiful grounds of Strawberry Hill. Refreshments available to purchase or bring your teddy and picnic in the garden. Free entry, some activities will be charged.

Twickenham Festival Tug of War Competition
Friday 10th June – 6.30pm – Eel Pie Pub, Church Street, Twickenham
A long running Twickenham tradition showcasing the best in strength, technique and cunning. Outside the Eel Pie Pub great for everyone the kids get a chance to have a go too.

Ham Fair
Saturday 11th June 2016 – Ham Common – 11:00am to 4:30pm
A variety of stalls, fun and entertainment including a dog show, live music and a young photographers competition. More info

Hampton Carnival
Saturday 11th June 2016 – 12.30 to 4 pm –  Nursery Green in The Avenue, Hampton.
Hampton Carnival will feature many charity and community stalls, grand draw, live music and model railway display.

Totally Church Street
Saturday 12th June – 11am to 6pm
A street party to mark the Queen’s 90th Birthday and showcasing the wonderful shops, boutiques, restaurants & pubs there are in the street. Lots of entertainment and fun things to do for all the family.

St Margarets Crown Road Street Party
Sunday 12th June 2016, 11am – 5pm
Live music, fancy dress, tug of war, petting zoo & Punch & Judy. Always busy!

Kew Fete
Saturday 18th June 2016 – Kew Green
More than 10,000 people attended the Fete in 2014 and 2015 is set to be just as successful, raising money for a variety of charities.  Alongside the traditional fair attractions, keep an eye out for the popular dog show and the tug-of-war. More info.

The Vineyard Summer Fair
Saturday 18th June 2016 – 12-4pm – Vineyard School, Friars Stile Road
All the stalls and entertainment you’d expect from this annual fair at the Vineyard School.

Barnes Family Festival of Football
Saturday 18th June 2016 – 10am-4pm – Barn Elms Sports Trust, SW13 9SA
A live band, BBQ, licensed bar, bouncy castle plus stalls selling everything from homemade cakes to local crafts, alongside fun fitness challenges. The day kicks off at 10 am with children’s games, before an 11 aside women’s match at 11.30am. The men’s game, a recreation of England’s World Cup 1966 winning final, kicks off at 2pm. More info

Twickenham Carnival
Sunday 19th June 2016 – Orleans House Gallery – 12 noon to 5pm
Each year Twickenham comes to life with the sights and sounds of Carnival in a free summer celebration for the whole family.  In 2016 you can follow their colourful carnival parade with costumes, dancers and drummers to celebrate 300 years of Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown to the Carnival village in the grounds of Orleans House Gallery in an explosion of music, dance and spectacular costume. East Twickenham Summer Fair
Sunday 19th June 2016 – Cambridge Gardens, Cleveland Road – 11am to 5pm
Food, shopping, carousel, pony rides, wine, beer and ice creams! More info

ARThouse Open Studios Festival
Friday 24th – Sunday 26th June 2016 and Friday 1st July – Sunday 3rd July. Friday 6-9pm, Saturday & Sunday 11am-6pm
Richmond borough’s annual artists’ open studios festival celebrating the vast and varied creative talent across the area. Over these two weekends artists and craftspeople will open the doors to their homes and creative spaces to exhibit their work with in the unique environment in which it is created. More info

Mortlake Summer Fair
Saturday 25th June 2016 – Brewery Green, Lower Richmond Road, 12 – 4pm.
The Fair is an integral part of SW14’s summer calendar and is attended by more than 2,500 visitors on average. It’s a terrific family event with lots of great activities, entertainment, food, drink and opportunities to shop and see what our local clubs and organisations are up to.

St Catherine’s Summer Fair
Sunday 26th June 2016 – St Catherine’s School, Twickenham, 11.30am – 3.30pm
Another classic school summer fair.  More info

Strawberry Hill Music & Fun Day
Sunday 26th June 2016, 12 noon – Strawberry Hill House
Live music all day, fun and games for kids, plus food, drink and sometimes a pony ride… This annual event has raised over £100,000 for Strawberry Hill House. More info

The Borough’s Best Banger Competition
Sunday 26th June 2016 – 12 noon – Jubilee Gardens, Twickenham Riverside
Come along and sample the best sausages in the borough and then vote for your favourite.


Twickenham Green Fete
Sunday 3rd July 2016 from 12pm – Twickenham Green
Organised by the Friends of Twickenham Green. Music, food and craft stalls, bouncy castles and lots of fun for the family.  More info

RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show
Tuesday 5th – Sunday 10th July – Hampton Court Palace
A floral summer celebration, packed with new features and firm show favourites, including over 40 inspirational Show Gardens, talks from celebrity chefs and gardeners and the opportunity to buy stunning plants and flowers.

Meadlands Primary School Summer Fair
Saturday 9th July 2016, times TBC, Meadlands Primary School
Live music, great food & drink. Fun stalls, activities, bouncy castles and more. More info

Barnes Fair
Saturday 9th July 2016, 9.30am-5.30pm, Barnes Green
Every inch of the Green gets taken over… Expect traditional entertainments, live music, an Events Stage and some 300 carefully selected stalls. More info

St Margaret’s Fair
Saturday 9th July 2016, 12pm – 7.30pm – Moormead, TW1 1EB
All the regular favourites such as the music stage and the ever popular dog show along with food stalls, beer tent, Pimms stall, BBQ, tea tent, craft stalls, fair ground rides and lots more.  All profits go to local schools and charities. More info

Friends of St Richard Reynolds Family Summer Fun Day
Sunday 10th July 2016, 12pm -3pm – Clifden Rd, Twickenham TW1 4LT
Family fun day with fancy dress parade, games, food, drink, bouncy castle, helter skelter, tug-of-war, raffle and the judging of the Great St Richard Reynolds Bake Off.  All funds raised directly benefit the school.

Hampton Hill Village Summer Fair
Saturday July 16th 2016 – Hampton Hill High Stree & Bushy Park
Expect a pet’s corner, bouncy castle, vintage bus rides, ponies, competitions, live music, daytime disco, a dog show and “loads more”… More info

TW12 Jazz Festival
Thursday 21st July – Sunday 24th July 2016, various venues.
On Thursday there will be a Jam Session at The Hampton Pub, Friday events are at the Oak Room in the United Reform Church in Hampton Hill, Saturday is the Normansfield Theatre in Hampton Wick, Teddington and on Sunday it’s all day at the Hampton Hill Theatre. More info


Twickenham Alive Riverside Festival
Saturday 6th August & Sunday 7th August 2016 – Twickenham Riverside
Dragon Boat Races & SUP Races, plus food, entertainment and fairground rides.  More info

On the Edge 2016
Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st August 2016 – 1 to 7pm on Richmond Riverside.
A free two day festival of live performances that will transport you to the far flung regions of the globe, bringing you traditional beats and exotic summer sounds. A great weekend of entertainment for the whole family!  More info

Kew Horticultural Society Show
Saturday 27th August 2016 – 1.30pm – Kew Green
Although vegetables, fruit and flowers play the major part, there is something for everyone – photography, arts and crafts, cookery, and special classes for children. There will be many stalls, a lively jazz band, a barbecue and a tea tent. More info


The Great River Race
Saturday 3 September 2016 – River Thames
The Great River Race is a spectacular procession of more than 300 rowing boats of all kinds (including Skiffs, Celtic Longboats and Cornish Gigs) racing 21.6 Miles from London Docklands to Ham.  Expect them to reach Kew Bridge by 2.45pm and Richmond Riverside around 3.15pm.  More info

Teddington River Festival
Saturday 4th September 2016, 12noon to 5pm – Teddington Lock
The Teddington River Festival and Teddington Lifeboat Station Open Day is a family fun day enjoyed by thousands of visitors with a variety of activities across the river including live music, boat rides, river rescue demonstrations, skiffing, rowing and kayaking taster sessions, craft & community stalls, fairground rides and inflatables. Barnes Food Fair
Saturday 17th September 2016, 10am – 5pm – Barnes Green
Over 80 artisan food producers showcasing their  produce in a grand marquee on the Green. There’s an outdoor picnic area with a great range of street food to choose from, and live music all day.

The Richmond Running Festival
Sunday 18th September 2016
Described as London’s most exclusive race! The includes the Richmond Marathon, Richmond Half Marathon, Kew Gardens 10K & NIKE kids’ mile races, along with the Richmond Fitness expo and music festival! More info
