High Court Green-Lights New Twickenham Station

Despite significant objections from local residents, it appears that the latest high court ruling is the final step in approving the new station development due for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

Why the objections? Surely locals would love a better station facility? Well the issue is ‘how’ the station will be developed with 3 years of noise and traffic disruption planned due to ‘money making’ residential properties being the core of the new development.

Plan ‘A’ has 115 additional luxury flats requiring not just a major high-rise but a huge concrete support, whilst Plan ‘B’ only has just over 30, which would significantly reduce the amount of building work.

According to the Richmond and Twickenham Times, Members of Twickenham Residents Action Group (known as TRAG) described the ruling as “a dark day for Twickenham, a black day for democracy”.

Both the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government and the Greater London Authority have said they would not over-rule the London Borough of Richmond Council.
