Christmas Lights Around Richmond

Santa Claus is just wrapping those last presents and the towns and villages in the Borough are going out of their way to make our high streets as festive as possible (while being fiscally responsible) for him.

This page runs through all the local Christmas lighting events, in date order. As always, please double check before you turn up just in case any of the times have changed.

Friday 21st November 2014
The Twickenham Christmas lights event runs from 3pm to 8pm on Church Street, including a festive market children’s carousel, Santa’s grotto and carol singing with Shelle Luscombe and the Kneller Hall Military Band.  A lantern procession leaves St Mary’s Church at 6pm and the big switch for the lights is pulled at 6.20pm.

Sunday 23rd November 2014
The Annual Christmas Lights Switch On starts at 12 noon with the Annual Fun Run (5k) which starts and finishes in the High Street. Santa will be in his Grotto, and kids can have fun on rides, slides and traditional games – and mum and dad can peruse the local stalls offering food, drink and Christmas gifts. The Kneller Hall Military Band will be performing and leading Christmas carols in the afternoon and the Christmas Lights will be switched on at 4.45pm.

Teddington (Christmas Lights)
Thursday 27th November 2014
The switch on and late night shopping all happens between 4pm and 10pm in Teddington. Broad Street lights up from 4pm and the Christmas tree lights will be turned on at 5.45 with a choir from Collis School. The High Street closes from 6.30pm, and then the main lights are switched on in Elmfield Gardens at 7pm by The Mayor of Richmond and Chris Jarvis.

East Twickenham
Friday 28th November 2014
The East Twickenham Christmas lights usually have a local celebrity (aka local councillor) to switch them on – plus all the traditional trimmings including Christmas trees, carol singing, mince pies and mulled wine.

Friday 28th November 2014
One of the great Pantomime traditions is that the star of the Richmond panto turns up to turn on the Christmas lights at 6.30pm. And this year is no exception with Jerry Hall pressing the switch, with help from the Deputy Mayor, Peter Bucknell. [Note – We do not think that the Deputy Mayor is appearing in the panto this year]. Richmond Hill hosts the Vineyard Christmas Fayre… and you can also meet Father Christmas! Duck Pond Market’s Frost Fayre and Petting Farm will be at Whittaker Avenue from 3pm to 8pm.

Hampton Hill
Friday 28th November 2014
This year Hampton Hill celebrates its 50th Christmas Parade! And as always it’s more than just a parade, it’s a whole series of events held along the high street including Father Christmas’ Grotto at the United Reformed Church from 4.30 – 6.00 pm, a Classic Car Show, great local stalls offering with food and gifts, Carol singing, festive pony rides, Helter skelter and carousel swings and much more! The event starts at 4pm, with the parade at 6.30pm.

Friday 5th December 2014
Kew Sparkle lights up the streets from 5:30pm to 8pm. As usual there will be Christmas lights, lots of stalls, mulled wine, carol singers from the local schools and the shops will be open late for shopping. Last year they raised £3000 for charity.

St Margarets
Sunday 7th December 2014
The St Margarets Christmas Fair will be held on Crown Road between 12.30 and 3.30pm. As always, there’ll be a wide range of stalls selling food and gifts plus children’s rides, carol singing, real reindeer and Father Christmas.

Teddington (Christmas Lantern Procession)
Sunday 14th December 2014
The second annual Christmas Lantern Procession starts at 4pm from the Teddington Memorial Hospital end of Broad Street, heads into The Causeway then across Broad Street into Church Road, and finishes outside the Baptist Church in Church Road where everyone will be invited to join in ‘Carols by Candlelit Lantern’. A really lovely event.
